Sugar cane is a traditional crop that has been grown and harvested in Colombia for centuries. This Panela is made from freshly harvested sugar cane that is passed through a mill to extract the nectar. The bagesse of the cane (fibers left after extraction) is combusted to evaporate the nectar; a sustainable process without centrifugation and additives.
Panela is a natural, wholesome, and unrefined sweetener that conserves the cane nectar's nutritious attributes. As high energy food, it provides complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Panela's rich aroma and distinct molasses taste make it the perfect match with coffee and hot chocolate. It may be sprinkled as a topping on cereal, oatmeal, fruit, or yogurt. It is also delicious in baking.
